Galatians 2.5
Wednesday Night: Galatians 2:11-21 July 1, 2026
NOT I, BUT CHRIST:
1. Paul confronted Peter because of the affect his actions were having on others.
a. Galatians 2:11-13
b. Peter was displaying his faith according to the crowd he was around.
c. Paul seen how Barnabas was influenced.
2. Paul’s question goes to the heart of the truth of the Gospel.
a. Galatians 2:14
b. Peter was not being motivated by his convictions but by fear which is hypocrisy.
3. Paul makes a clear distinction: we are justified, not by works of the law, but by faith in Christ.
a. Galatians 2:15-16
b. All people stand as condemned sinners before God: God-fearing, law-keeping Jews, and “Gentile sinners” alike.
c. But all have hope in the same source: through faith in Jesus Christ.
d. The term justified is the one word that represents the effect upon us of what Jesus accomplished on the cross.
4. Paul points to the dilemma that Peter had caused as if he was not really justified.
a. Galatians 2:17-18
b. Justified (a legal term) means: Just as if I had never sinned.
c. Don’t get caught up in trying to justify yourself or your sin.
d. Justified people will sin, but they are moving onward and upward.
5. Paul makes the best argument for changing our identity from lawbreaker to Christ living in us.
a. Galatians 2:19-21
b. The Christian has died to the law; he has nothing more to do with it.
c. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
d. Here, faith means reliance—continual dependence on Christ by yielding to Him.
e. It is not a matter of striving, but of trusting.
