Galatians 1

Jun 17, 2026    Pastor Steve Knight

 Wednesday Night:   Galatians 1:1-17                                                  June 17, 2026

OVERVIEW:

This Epistle is written to the churches of Southern Galatia (mentioned in Acts 13, 14):

·       Antioch of Pisidian

·       Iconium

·       Lystra

·       Derbe

The Epistle centers on one great truth: We are justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone—not by works of the Law.

The purpose of the Epistle: There were Judaizers teaching there. Paul wrote to correct this false teaching (Jesus + Law).

Key verse: Galatians 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

There are three logical sections of Galatians:

Personal: The Preacher of Justification.

Doctrinal: The Principles of Justification.

Practical: The Privileges of Justification.

OUTLINE OF GALATIANS 1:

1.    Paul is called to be an apostle by Jesus Christ.

a.    Galatians 1:1

b.    Paul establishes his authority.

c.     His authority was founded upon: God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the resurrection of Christ.

d.    Galatians 1:2

2.    Paul starts with grace and peace.

a.    Galatians 1:3-5

b.    This greeting has theological order. Grace then peace. You never experience God's peace until you first receive His grace.

c.     Grace and peace are available because of Christ’s work on the cross.

3.    Paul stated his concern that you are turning away to a different gospel.

a.    Galatians 1:6-10

b.    False doctrine always pulls people away from Christ.

Examples of false additions:

c.     Grace plus works.

d.    Grace plus law.

e.    Grace plus rituals.

f.      Grace plus human merit.

g.    Teachers are judged by the gospel. You never judge the gospel by teachers.

4.    Paul boldly claims the gospel was revealed directly by Jesus Christ.

a.    Galatians 1:11-17

b.    Ministry flows from transformation.
