Mark 4:26-29 (Jesus said)

26 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest… shall not cease.”

In our text, there are three dynamics are seen:

Potential

Process

Patience

The Kingdom of God on earth is God’s reign and rule manifested through Jesus Christ, transforming lives and advancing His will!

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE:

1. A person who sows seeds.

Mark 4:26-27a And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day…

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE:

2. The seed has potential.

Mark 4:27b … the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.

The seed has everything in it to reach its full potential—given the right environment, it will grow.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE:

3. The one who scatters the seed releases the potential.

Mark 4:28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.

TAKEAWAYS:

1. The Kingdom can neither be forced nor coerced.

Mark 4:27c-28 …he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself…

You sow in FAITH… TRUST for growth… and have PATIENCE with the process!

TAKEAWAYS:

2. The Word contains its own generative power.

James 1:21b …humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

TAKEAWAYS:

3. When the time is ripe, it will be harvest time.

Mark 4:29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

John 4:35 (Jesus said) Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!

Conclusion:

Jesus declares a harvest from the seeds sown!

Question is, why are we not sowing seeds?
