JESUS CALLS US TO FOLLOW HIM IN FAITH & OBEDIENCE:

1.    The call to trust Jesus. 

a.    Luke 5:1-3 

b.    The Word of Jesus precedes the work of Jesus.

c.     Luke 5:4-5 

d.    Faith often requires stepping beyond our experience.

e.    Luke 5:6-7

f.      Obedience leads to overwhelming blessing.

g.    Luke 5:8-11 

h.    A real encounter with Jesus produces humility and surrender.


2.    The call to compassion.

a.    Luke 5:12-13 

b.    Jesus is willing to touch the untouchable.

c.     Luke 5:14-16

d.    True ministry flows out of prayer and dependence on God.


3.    The call to forgiveness.

a.    Luke 5:17-19 

b.    Faith sometimes requires determined persistence.

c.     Luke 5:20-21 

d.    Luke 5:22-26 

e.    Jesus’ authority to forgive is confirmed by His power to heal.


4.    The call to follow.

a.    Luke 5:27-29

b.    Jesus calls people right where they are but demands they leave their old life.

c.     Luke 5:30-32 

d.    Jesus came for those who admit their need for Him, not the self-righteous.


5.    The call to new life.

a.    Luke 5:33-35 

b.    Jesus brings new joy, not just old rituals.

c.     Luke 5:36-39 

d.    His kingdom is a new work, not a patch on the old.

e.    The danger of clinging to the old is resisting the new.

f.      The Spirit’s work requires new wineskins—hearts made new.

g.    The Greek word translated “NEW” in relation to WINE is “NEOS” But the word translated “NEW” in relation to WINESKINS is KAINOS and literally means “RENEWED.”
