Luke 16
JESUS TEACHES THE URGENCY OF REPENTANCE AND FOLLOWING HIM:
1. When something bad happens, it is not always judgment.
a. Luke 13:1-5
b. Jesus points out the real issue is the condition of the heart.
2. God’s patience is not permission; it’s mercy.
a. Luke 13:5-9
b. God’s patience is a time to grow.
3. Jesus proves that He can loose what Satan tries to bind.
a. Luke 13:10-17
b. Rejoice at the compassion of Jesus, resist getting caught up in questioning why.
4. Small beginnings entrusted to God produces oversized growth.
a. Luke 13:18-21
b. The witness of Jesus from one person can touch everyone that person meets.
5. Jesus tells us to strive to enter through the narrow gate.
a. Luke 13:22-30
b. STRIVE means make every effort.
c. God’s kingdom will include people from every part of the world. Israel’s rejection of Jesus as Messiah would not stop God’s plan.
6. Know this: Jesus’ life, work, and death would not be determined by kings or some religious people.
a. Luke 13:31-35
b. Jesus’ life was planned and directed by God.
c. His mission would unfold in God’s time.
