Matthew 6:25-34

1.          Worry Is unnecessary.

a.          Matthew 6:25

b.          (Because) God is the giver of life.

c.          Worry focuses on the provision instead of the provider.

d.          If God gave the greater, He WILL provide the lesser.

2.     Worry is illogical because God faithfully cares for His Creation.

         a.   Matthew 6:26-30

         b.   God feeds the birds without their anxiety. (Psalm 147:9, Job 38:41)

         c.   Human beings are infinitely more valuable than birds.

         (Matt. 10:29-31, Gen. 1:27)

         d.   Worry cannot add anything to our lives. It actually takes away.

         (Ecclesiastes 6:12, Proverbs 12:25)

         e.   God’s care is visible in the beauty of Creation. (vs. 29, Psalm 104:24)

3.     Worry reveals a struggle to trust God’s character.

         a.   Matthew 6:30-32

         b.   Worry is connected to “little faith”. (Hebrews 11:6, James 1:6-8)

         c.   Worry mirrors the mindset of the world. (vs. 32, Eph. 2:12, Colossians 3:2)

         d.   God knows our needs before we ask. (vs. 32, Psalm 139:1-4, Isaiah 65:24)

4.     Freedom from worry comes from having right priorities.

         a.   Matthew 6:33

         b.   Seeking the Kingdom shifts our focus. (Colossians 3:1-3, Psalm 27:4)

         c.   God’s righteousness shapes our desires. (Rom. 14:17, Matt. 5:6, Psalm 37:4)

         d.   Provision is a promise, not a pursuit. (Psalm 84:11, Philippians 4:19)

5.     Worry is defeated by trusting God one day at a time.

         a.   Matthew 6:34

         b.   God gives grace for today, not tomorrow. (Lam. 3:22-23, Exodus 16:4)

         c.   Tomorrow belongs to God. (Proverbs 16:9, James 4:13-15)

         d. Each day has enough trouble, and enough grace. (John 16:33, Isaiah 41:10)

Conclusion: Rest in the care of our Heavenly Father.
