Promise of the Father

John 16:5-15

[5] “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ [6] But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. [7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. [8] And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] of sin, because they do not believe in Me; [10] of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; [11] of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. [12] “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. [13] However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. [14] He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. [15] All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

GOD’S WORK IN YOUR LIFE:

1. God envisioned your life before you ever took a breath.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

John 16:12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

2. Jesus embodied your example.

John 16:14-15 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. [15] All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

1 Peter 2:21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.

3. The Holy Spirit empowers and surrounds your walk.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever…

Romans 8:11,16 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. [16] The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

1. The Holy Spirit continues the work of transformation that Jesus began.

John 16:8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Transformation begins with acknowledgement.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Titus 3:5b …He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

2. The Holy Spirit confirms God’s truth to us.

John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

The Spirit doesn’t just teach truth—He is truth's voice inside of you.

3. The communion of the Holy Spirit ignites our passion for God’s presence.

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

John 4:23-24 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. [24] God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Romans 12:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Conclusion:

The Holy Spirit is not a doctrine to study, but a divine Person to know. He is God’s empowering presence in your life, shaping you into the image of Christ, unveiling the Father’s plans, and calling you deeper into the life you were created for.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
